Hi Everyone! I just switched from an RTX 4070 to the 4070 Super today. I installed the new card, updated the drivers, and restarted my PC. Right after, the games I tried had major performance drops. They started at a steady 120 fps at 1440p but quickly fell to around 30 FPS. It felt like the game was running on a slow slide into PowerPoint mode. The NVIDIA stats showed the GPU clock spiking to about 2700 MHz and utilization hovering near zero, then jumping back and forth between 0 and under 50%. I didn’t notice any overheating since it stayed below 80°C, and the CPU temperature also remained steady. Games like Palworld (early access) and Cities Skylines II were affected. My setup includes an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, Noctua NH-L9x65 cooler, 2x16GB RAM, a Zotac 4070 Super, 2TB SSD, a 2TB Samsung 980 Pro, and a Cooler Master V850 PSU. The case is Fractal Ridge.

Updated: I tested Furmark and it appears the GPU overheats around 66 degrees before stuttering. Unclear why this happens at that temperature since MSI Afterburner limits are 86°C. I ran the benchmark three times and the problem starts when it reaches 66°C, staying below 66. I adjusted the power limit to 85% after seeing a spike to 117% in MSI Kombustor, but the issue persists.

I opted for the dual 8 pin to 12VHPWR adapter included with the 4070 Super, which uses a standard single 8 pin. Pairing it with one of those 8 pin + 8 pin PCIe cables that fit the PSU side resolved the problem. It seems using an adapter requires separate 8 pin connections or a native 12VHPWR cable for better compatibility.

You connected the 2×8 pins to the 12VHPWR adapter, which seems to be the clear explanation you mentioned.
