I have two 8GB Crucial Ballistix sticks at 3200 MHz CL16 DDR4 (Micron Rev. E) installed in an Asus TUF B660M-Plus D4 with 12400F. I’m considering adding two more identical sticks to reach 4x8GB. Some suggest the 12400F IMC might be too weak for four sticks, which could cause problems. My motherboard supports RAM OC, but I don’t want to overclock. If issues arise with four sticks, can I adjust them slightly to make it work? The BIOS settings available are what I’m checking. Are these sufficient for my needs? Should I explore other options?
It has a limited IMC because VCCSA can't exceed 1V, which is the main voltage supporting memory overclocking on DDR4. Intel's own notes say it can handle 3200MT/s with 4x8GB setups. In theory it should work, but real-world performance may be slightly lower. Switching to a 2x16GB configuration might improve things, though 4x8GB should still function reasonably well.
Right now the cost is $44 (adjusted) compared to buying extra 2x8GB cards. Because Crucial no longer makes these, the current inventory is discounted, so I plan to purchase two more sticks, try them out, and send them back if they don’t work. Thanks!
