Four-pin setup is plenty. As you hit ten cores or higher, you’ll need eight pins, and eventually push that high-core CPU beyond overclocking limits.

I've never encountered a setup like this before... it seems the design skips the first eight pins, using only four as optional. Both should connect to the same power plane. No other motherboard matches this approach.

You're limited to four, but it makes sense to use eight if your power supply has one.

I haven’t seen it myself, though one was talked about in discussions. It seems feasible. Just needing a designer to connect a lead on one side only, saving material and letting the cable’s dual nature handle the bridging. The original 8-pin design was 2×4, and earlier boards had them split. Now it’s just an 8-pin cable acting like a 4-pin version twice. It’s still possible, though it feels a bit naive. It should be an ATX standard, and I don't believe any genuine motherboards would be built outside the 4-pin format. Two pins carry 12V, two provide ground, so it's unclear why they wouldn't follow the wiring correctly. I'm aware of some subpar board designs, but doubting a reputable brand is hard. Still, who knows what other surprises exist?
