Hello everyone I recently acquired a 3080 Ti with the intention of watercooling it. One day while turning it on, the card popped and began to smoke. I immediately shut down the PC and restarted it. There was no popping sound but it kept smoking again and then I left the room. A red light appeared in the middle of my 3x8 pin connector and it won’t turn off. I started troubleshooting but nothing resolved the issue—it got worse over time. Eventually, more lights started to illuminate on the GPU, the fans spun at full speed, and there was still no resolution. I’m considering either continuing the troubleshooting or submitting an RMA. No matter which PCI-E slot I plug my PCI-E cables into on the PSU, the same problem occurs. I’ve also tried using different cables.

I noticed the various power cables connected to the GPU. Did you combine PCIE cables from multiple power supplies?

All lights lit up on the GPU, so I thought the cables might be damaged. I replaced them with another set from the same power supply but in a different color. Both white and black cables came from an Rm750, but I switched back to the original ones once I confirmed the problem wasn’t there.

The indicators show these connections aren't receiving power. It's best to halt any attempts to power up the device and focus on resolving the cable and power issues. There seems to be a fault causing an overload.

I understand you're aware of the cables and power supply being solid.

The system stopped delivering power to the card, yet connecting three separate cable bundles simultaneously doesn’t reassure me that cables from various suppliers or brands weren’t accidentally combined.

The wires are combined in a balanced setup yet originate from identical production lines.

The power supply issue occurred on the graphics card. It’s best to stop trying fixes now. By this stage, only one input rail remains active, and the PCIE port isn’t receiving any power.

I bought a new, larger power supply unit. The same problems still occur. It seems the issues might be beyond my control, so I’m considering starting over.
