3950x on ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO (x370)
Hello everyone, I’m planning to enhance my PC. It’s solid now, but more power will make a big difference. My main tasks involve 3D modeling and game development using Unreal Engine. The current setup is a ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO (x370) with a Ryzen 1700 processor. I’m aiming to upgrade to an R9 3950X later, along with a new GPU. I’ll eventually get the latest motherboard and a fresh GPU, but for now I can only upgrade the CPU. My motherboard supports this chipset, and I don’t plan to push it beyond its limits.
I’m wondering if there will be any issues during this transition or if there are specific considerations I should keep in mind. Any feedback would be welcome. For those curious about my system specs: Ryzen 1700, Asus Crosshair VI Hero Corsair Vengeance 3000, 16 GB RAM (4 x 64 GB), Gigabyte 1080 Ti NVMe SSD, 256 GB SSD, two 6 TB HDDs, two 2 TB HDDs, and four 3 TB external drives. I also have a 1000 W EVGA graphics card (gold or platinum doesn’t matter).
Update your BIOS and purchase a new Ryzen 3000 series CPU. The board should work fine for that. Feel free to pick whatever you prefer and go big if you like. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-CR...pDesk_CPU/
I refreshed the UEFI firmware, but I'll continue using my old CPU for now.
