Hi Mate, I’d choose an x570 board with 3600Mhz CL16 RAM for the best performance. You might also consider a Gen 4 PCI-e slot if you need one for a Gen 4 card, which won’t cost much more. I considered the B450 because it has a MUX and the X570 or newer models still lack MUX boards. In terms of RAM, 3200MHz should be sufficient. I plan to explore a NVIC card next.
It makes sense, though not many models now come with a matx x570. Most people think 3600Mhz gives a noticeable boost—about 7% faster than 3200Mhz—but the cost still adds up. I owned a 5700XT once and was really impressed; I’d definitely suggest Navi, especially given the price.
I'm expecting the 2080 equivalent soon. I'm planning to go with the 3950x, dark rock pro 4, and b450 mortar max since I don't need PCIe 4 yet. For a workstation setup, using b450 x570 seems too high-end and could cause fan issues. Also, MSI B450 boards have a solid reputation from BuildZOID and others.
I’d avoid any Ryzen mATX boards since they’re quite basic; 3600Mhz is a great balance of cost and power. The Trident Z Neo is my top choice—I own a 5700XT in my dedicated gaming rig, and it’s impressive even when compared to my RTX 2080 Ti. I run the 5700 XT on a 240Hz 1080P Freesync display, and it performs just as well or better than the RTX 2080 Ti on a 3440x1440 120hz G-SYNC screen.
both options should work but I’m not sure I’d choose a Ryzen mATX board for a DR Pro 4 without certainty it can manage a 3950X. I have a 240mm AIO on my 3950X inside a SFF case without any problems. A DR Pro 4 is basically the same cooler they use on the 280W TR4 models.
I'm concerned that the DRP4 might not provide sufficient cooling. They recommend a 280mm airflow design, but the air dynamics are different. While the ripper cooler is a solid choice, it's primarily used for Threadripper sockets. The AM4 chipset restricts me to DRP4 or similar options like Noctua or Scythe. The cooler I have is dual direction—clockwise and counterclockwise—and seems to perform better based on thermal performance. Even a small temperature reduction makes a big difference in high-performance builds today. The main challenge might be the limited airflow over the VRMs for the B450 MORTAR MAX motherboard. This, combined with the case's restricted airflow, could affect cooling. Using a reference card like the 5700X Navi might help since the case isn't designed for high airflow. Components include a 3950X Navi, an Anniversary DDR4 3200MHz 64GB RAM, an SSD, and a 750 Platinum PSU, running Windows 10.
