I recently upgraded my 2700 to a 3800x and noticed a significant boost in gaming performance. On average, I see about 10-15 frames per second more. The only downside is the temperature rise when using the Corsair H100i Platinum, reaching around 70 F during gameplay and nearly 81 during stress tests. Even though it's well below the recommended maximum of 95, I'd be pleased if it stayed closer to 70 during stress tests as well. Of course, I won't push my CPU to 100% continuously, but a little dust accumulation in the fans is something to keep in mind. I usually clean my PC every 12-18 months, typically when purchasing new components.

The heat density problem and excessive voltage are contributing factors. Adjust the voltage slightly downward without overdoing it to maintain performance.

I experienced the same issue on my 3800x with PBO turned off. During testing, I kept the clock speed at 3.9GHz and voltage at its default, except when lowering it to 1.2V. My Cinebench R20 temps dropped from 73°C to 56°C. The performance score decreased noticeably. If I optimize my RAM usage further, I might be able to maintain the stock speed with PBO enabled instead of overclocking—but adjusting the voltage to cool down could affect stability.

I strongly suggest reducing the voltage. The motherboard tends to force excessive voltages such as 1.4, but you should aim for around 1.3 or even lower. My original board had a stock 3900 running at 1.4vcore and reached 75°C with a monoblock. I managed to bring it down to 1.28 and achieved stable performance at 52°C under full load.

General advice: often the issue lies in the CPU's inability to dissipate heat effectively to the heatsink. Many users reported overheating CPUs while the heatsink felt cool. This tends to be a problem with third-generation processors.
