3700X VS 9700K for 240Hz gaming?
3700X VS 9700K for 240Hz gaming?
I’d try 3700x. The 9700k secured a win with 9700k, but its missing hyperthreading might be an issue since future consoles offer 8 cores and 16 threads compared to just 8 cores here. I bought a 9900k and really missed it because the cost of the CPU plus motherboard is 300 more than what I’d pay for a 3700x. You can also reuse the same motherboard if you plan to upgrade to Ryzen 4000.
10700k is almost here—consider holding off unless you need it. If you're concerned about long-term upgrades, skip the non-hyperthreading CPU. Upcoming titles will likely offer better multi-core support.
I wouldn't purchase a high-end CPU right before a new model launches. I'd hold off until at least the 109700k, so you can compare the latest Ryzen chips. After all, the Ryzen seems to be an end-of-life product as well. Most users don't edit videos intensively enough for the Ryzen to justify itself. At the premium level, you get a smaller boost in performance for a higher price.
The 9700k performs better now, but after the consoles launch and some games utilize more threads, you'll face a CPU that feels less smooth in games you want to play. The chip already had problems in a few titles like Ac Unity. It's possible this will happen, but it would be really annoying if it does.
