It might be wise to hold off, though I’m not sure. I think waiting could help me secure these models at a lower cost, even if the price difference isn’t huge.
It means if the temperature is 10700K, the result will be 3900x. I’ll keep my original target at 3700x. My main concern is how they’ll perform over time. It’s possible I won’t upgrade for another 5 to 7 years.
X264 is not limited to Intel; you can use it with AMD as well. There are alternative encoders beyond NVENC available for those platforms.
CPUs don't require drivers, your friend might be exaggerating. Still, the AM4 form factor works better right now compared to the older LGA1200, especially since BIOS updates on 400-series Intel have been problematic. It's likely the same or worse for Intel due to new security patches that hurt performance. We can't predict if the 10th generation will face major issues like before, but since the 10700 is based on Skylake, I wouldn't be surprised. Overall, performance stays stable and the 10700 seems reasonable.
There’s no significant variation in how long they last. Both can keep you alive for a decade or more, at least in terms of survival. You’ll definitely need to replace them sooner than expected, mainly for better performance.
