3600MHz CL18 20-20-40 or 3200MHz CL16 18-18-36
3600MHz CL18 20-20-40 or 3200MHz CL16 18-18-36
Hey everyone, just wanted to share a quick thought. I'm thinking about upgrading my RAM from 16GB 4400 MHz Patriot Viper Steel to 32GB. Right now I have a Ryzen 5 3600x and I'm considering the options: Patriot 32GB DDR4-3600 with CL18, or Corsair 32GB DDR4-3200. The main thing I'm unsure about is what CL means—less is better, but I want to be informed. So I asked for advice. The best choices are either the Patriot 32GB DDR4-3600 with CL18 (PVS432G360C8) or the Corsair 32GB DDR4-3200 kit (CMW32GX4M2C3200C16). The key question is whether getting a slightly higher CL like 20-40 is worth trading off some speed for more capacity. Thanks in advance!
unless you require high speed, their latency is comparable. therefore, you won't notice any significant variation in performance for most applications.
No there is huge difference one is CL16 and other CL18(not the same)
Latency remains consistent, which is often what's important for many operations. It's possible you could boost the 3200MHz to 3600MHz by adjusting the timing settings? Latency depends on both timing and speed, with speed offering the advantage of higher bandwidth, which can be beneficial depending on the workload.
It would yield the same outcome as the existing 3600 MHz frequency.
