Assisting a young friend with his son's newly assembled setup has proven challenging due to communication issues. The system was installed roughly six weeks ago and initially functioned well for two weeks before entering a boot/windows repair cycle. I supported remotely mainly through text, guiding him through advanced boot settings and system restore procedures. This resolved the problem temporarily, with the machine operating smoothly for another two weeks—though occasional restarts occurred, which I now suspect were simply shutdown/startup resets rather than crashes.
Now, after about a month, the computer has repeatedly entered a boot/windows repair/reset loop. The son was recently booted to a Windows USB drive, both drives were wiped, and a fresh Windows installation was performed. Diagnostics showed stability with AIDA Suite, memory tests, and stress tests all passing. However, I’ve been informed it still worked “fine” except for a few restarts.
Recently, during an online class, the system reset and fell into a loop again. Even when trying to access recovery tools, it couldn’t stay on the USB. I visited the machine, which initially booted normally but then reset upon launching AIDA. Stress tests continued to show intermittent crashes—CPU, memory, and CPU stress all triggered resets within minutes. I’ve replaced or ruled out most components except the motherboard and CPU.
The processor is a Ryzen 3600 with an original cooler, which has been nearing 100°C during initial testing. The motherboard is MSI B550-A Pro with an NVMe M.2 4TB WD Black drive and an EVGA 650W GA graphics card. Storage includes an Inland Professional 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD, a Win 10 Pro 2004 OS (based on a 2019 recovery USB), and a Fractal Define 7 with extra fans.
What concerns me most is the performance under stress testing.
