I placed an aftermarket component and expect it to arrive in about 1.5 weeks because of the ongoing situation. In hwinfo64, the 3600 shows temperatures reaching 95-96°C during gaming. The side compartment has kept the CPU around 85°C, but I’m worried about potential damage from these high temps. I’ve heard that 7nm chips can be quite sensitive.
Unlikely even if it ran for a long time. CPUs tend to slow down or shut down completely before causing harm. I match what FruitBasketSilex said—I think you installed it incorrectly. It could be the thermal paste, but usually that’s an issue with older chips (they’ve been sitting on the shelves for a while).
Technically, the hotter a chip operates, the shorter its lifespan tends to be. However, this doesn't necessarily mean it will fail soon—manufacturers usually build in safety limits and reduce performance to stay within safe temperatures. Temporarily lowering its clock speed could help extend its life. If opening the case significantly impacts performance, it might indicate the need for improved cooling solutions.
Maybe adjusting the BIOS fan settings could help, especially if it's set to the softest mode. I’m not sure what choices AMD offers for Intel users right now.
I’d like to retrieve and reconfigure it too. I attempted the stock cooler for my 3600 before the AM4 mount came, and it rarely hit temperatures above the mid-60s during gaming. I cleaned and replaced the gasket with Noctua H1 before installation. The original coolant was still wet and soft. Could you share your case fan configuration?
