35W Uncore on 15W 0.13Ghz 5200u CPU Issue
35W Uncore on 15W 0.13Ghz 5200u CPU Issue
Hello everyone, I discovered an old laptop in my home that I had stopped using a while it was becoming very slow. I assumed the issue was due to its hard drive, but that turned out not to be right. After checking Task Manager, the CPU was stuck at around 0.13 or 0.48 Ghz depending on how often it restarted. I read many articles online, but nothing resolved the problem, so I’m reaching out for your assistance. I believe the issue lies in the CPU thinking its uncore is using 35W and automatically throttling its power. I’ve updated to the latest BIOS and drivers. The laptop is a Lenovo G50-80 with 4GB RAM, an i5-5200u processor, and an R5 M330 graphics card. The problem continues both when it’s plugged in and when it’s off. The settings I photographed haven’t changed. Thank you!
I discovered the issue lies in the BIOS. I own a Lenovo G50-80, model 80E5 with Core i5-5200u. I'm looking for BIOS B0CN40WW. I changed the BIOS version from B0CN40WW to B0CNA0WW and the CPU is stuck at 0.13Ghz, thinking Uncore uses around 40W and it's throttling itself. I tested older BIOS versions like B0CN95WW - 0.13GHZ, B0CN75WW and B0CN79WW - 0.48Ghz. In versions B0CN75WW and B0CN79WW the CPU thinks Uncore uses 30W so it throttles a bit less, but still not what it should be. I'm trying to find my original BIOS version to fix this problem. I'm using the original RAM but also tried another one, reinstalled Windows, Windows 7 and Windows 10 didn't help anything.
