32GB or 64GB
32GB or 64GB
I’m planning to enhance my gaming laptop from 16 to 32 or even 64. After watching several comparison videos on YouTube, the differences between 32 and 64 seem minimal. I prefer simulation games like X4 Foundations, which can run smoothly at 240fps, but after playing for a while I’m down to around 55fps.
I’m clearly saying this directly. If a game needs 32GB of RAM at some point, your laptop will almost certainly struggle to run it, regardless of speed. Even with 16GB, performance will drop noticeably, and running out of 32GB in gaming is practically unthinkable soon.
You'd likely need to run a heavily modified version of games to reach over 32GB, though it's achievable. I wouldn't waste time unless you're sure, because most games don't require it. The issue with relying on one game is that it could be a permanent bug, and even if it were fixable, you'd need certainty it's just memory usage.
Thanks for the example—it really shows the point. In the workshop, I feel a surge of excitement. Like with other games, CPU and GPU usage stay steady around 60 to 80. But RAM consumption hits the high 90s. I have enough money and slots for either two 32GB sticks plus a 1TB SSD or two 16GB sticks plus a 2TB SSD. Maybe exploring SSDs could be worth it if budget allows.
I don't have a GPU, but I can work with any GPU you're using. What's your model?
In short, 64GB is available at a discount—32GB is fine, but for gaming the difference won’t matter much.
