Hello, your Intel I7 8700 (non-K) CPU is compatible with ASUS Rog Strix Z390-F motherboard. You're using two 16GB sticks totaling 32GB of Corsair 2666 RAM. Can you swap them for a pair of 16GB (32GB) 3200 memory modules? Intel's website mentions this processor supports 2666 RAM, but I haven't found a definitive confirmation yet. Enable XMP settings. Check the Intel 8700K page—it lists 2666. With 8th generation Intel, you can use an Z motherboard for faster RAM speeds.

Use the Z series board's RAM overclocking options. Even if your existing RAM doesn’t exceed 2666 MHz, you’ll verify it can handle higher speeds independently of your CPU limits.

As @--SID-- mentioned, it will function with XMP settings. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing 3200MHz RAM; instead, consider boosting your existing 2666MHz to 3000 or 3200MHz. You might also raise the clock speed to 103 for a minor performance increase, especially on a Z-board where such settings are common.

It's operating at 1600MHz per channel and successfully passed four Memtest86 runs with no issues. Hope this assists anyone facing a similar situation. In short for those looking: it's feasible to install RAM at 3200 MHz on an 8th generation Intel non-K chip with a Z series board. Just ensure the XMP profile is activated in BIOS. Thanks!

Running a 5GHz 8700K with a 5700X and your son's 8700 with a 3060 works fine, both support 3200 memory.

Thank you both, I'm glad to hear that my config is well balanced. I was thinking of upgrading my cpu to 9900k (used) since the motherboard also supports 9'th gen. I think this would be useful for more processor demanding titles. Do you think it's worth doing this upgrade or should I wait for better prices on that model in the future? Since the system is well balanced I think that it's not worth rushing with the upgrade. Thank you!
