3090 stuttering in windowed mode
3090 stuttering in windowed mode
Hello everyone, my 3090 is experiencing stuttering during games and its usage drops to around 50-60%. I've been trying various fixes for several days without success. The steps I attempted include using DDU, reinstalling the latest driver, turning on re-bar, setting power management to maximum performance, and enabling ultra low latency in the NVIDIA control panel. I also recently did a clean Windows 11 installation, but it didn't resolve the issue. Initially, I suspected a faulty used EVGA FTW3 3090, but testing with M-SI Kombustor showed that stress tests in windowed mode caused severe stuttering while full screen kept performance high. When I briefly exited full screen, usage dropped and stuttering returned, suggesting a driver problem rather than a GPU fault. During gaming, stuttering occurred regardless of windowed or full screen settings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My specifications are as follows: CPU - GIGABYTE AORUS ELITE Z690 DDR4, CPU Cooler - GIGABYTE AORUS WATERFORCE X 360mm, GPU - EVGA FTW3 3090, PSU - GIGABYTE 850W fully modular, RAM - GIGABYTE AORUS DDR4 3700MH 32GB RGB (x4) with 8GB, Storage - SAMSUNG 980 PRO NVME M.2 1TB.
Start with adjusting the video settings in the game. If frame rate isn’t limited, enable Vsync or set a cap. If neither helps, switch to a game that allows uncapped FPS and use the Nvidia control panel to restrict your display’s frame rate, which should eliminate stuttering.
I attempted to limit FPS and enable game synchronization, but it didn’t work. Disabling VSync and using the NVIDIA control panel to cap FPS also failed. Finally, turning off VSync completely in-game and the control panel left my GPU stuttering.
I fixed the problem by uninstalling the software that was causing the lag and slowdown. It was the L-CONNECT 3 app used to manage my RGB fans. I saw it consuming 15-25% of my CPU in Task Manager while running in the background. Once I stopped it, my GPU usage spiked to 99% and the stuttering stopped.
