Hello, I recently upgraded my computer with an RTX 3090 and must admit I’m a bit disappointed with the speed. I suspect it might not be up to the mark, but I want to verify. I moved from an MSI Aero RTX 2070 to the ZOTAC Trinity RTX 3090 24GB, and the boost is there but not dramatic. I expected this chip to be a real powerhouse, so the gap would be huge. Initially, I believed my Ryzen 5 3600x would be a much bigger bottleneck than it turned out to be, so I upgraded to a 9 5900X, yet performance hasn’t improved much. Before diving deeper here, here are the details (more specifics if needed):

- Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit
- Target resolution: 1080p (bought mainly for VR)
- Graphics card: ZOTAC RTX 3090 Gaming Trinity OC 24GB GDDR6X
- CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X
- RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 (XMP enabled)
- Case: Asus TUF B550 Plus with Wi-Fi
- Motherboard: Aorus PCIe 4.0 boot drive
- Power supply: Chieftec CTG-750C

The main concern is still the same, but if performance matches what I got with the 3600X, it probably isn’t the issue. Things I’ve tried so far: BIOS update; reinstalling drivers (DDU); improving tower cooling; changing PCIe mode to GEN4 in BIOS; checking NVIDIA settings. The gameplay feels okay—especially in Warzone 2.0 at full settings and without DLSS. I’m aiming for 100 FPS, but at 1080p it’s around 168 FPS with RTX on, which is decent but not ideal.

The biggest red flag came from a video (link provided): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqTtWGE12fY. I noticed his setup is overclocked, yet at 1440p he’s averaging 200 FPS, while mine is about 168 at 1080p (38 with RTX on). This suggests something might be wrong with my rig or the card itself.

I’m not certain if it’s power limitations or thermal issues, but I’ve seen GPU-Z logs from a short test that could help. Feel free to suggest benchmarks, and I’ll share the findings. Thanks for all your support!

Hi Shedmannn, It seems your new RTX 3090 might be facing some performance problems. Possible reasons include a defective card, overheating, or an insufficient power supply. Start by verifying that your graphics card is operating at its full clock speed using tools like MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision X1. A significant drop in clock speed alongside high temperatures may indicate thermal throttling, possibly due to poor thermal paste or inadequate cooling. To assess your power supply, check its wattage and ensure it meets the minimum needs for your system—RTX 3090 requires at least 750W. If you've checked these factors and performance remains low, a faulty card could be the issue. In that scenario, reach out to the manufacturer or retailer to confirm warranty status and replacement options. Let me know if you need further guidance!

The faulty temperature sensor was identified, the replacement card was submitted, and there have been no issues yet.
