I recently upgraded my system with an ASRock B450M Pro4, Ryzen 3 1200, and a 3000mhz Patriot Viper 2x4GB RAM. I noticed the Task Manager shows RAM at 2133Mhz—why is that? Is my CPU underpowered and should I upgrade it? Also, when checking ASRock’s site, they say it supports my RAM.

No, I didn't enable XMP/DOCP in the BIOS.

Enter the BIOS by powering on the PC and pressing DEL. Often XMP or XAMP appears first in the settings. You can pick a profile, usually 2933Mhz is recommended since AMD changes from 2933Mhz to 3066Mhz. Just enable XMP and it will operate at full capacity. P.S. Always mention people when you reply so they know you responded

You can proceed without updating your bios first; it’s fine if you just do it.

In the BIOS you see XMP auto for load xmp and DRAM auto for dram frequency. You should adjust your DRAM frequency to 3000 and set the XMP profile to version 2.0.

You don’t have to refresh the BIOS unless you’re facing problems. I’d suggest leaving it on auto instead. It could be trying to ‘train’ the memory, which usually means the system will restart a few times during setup. That’s normal behavior as it determines what works best.

For both of my MSI boards, I needed to enable XMP profile 2 for proper functionality. Check your manual for details.
