When considering a 4 x 16GB DDR4-3000 kit, can you locate CL14 at a reasonable cost? DDR4-3000 CL16 isn’t great. Since Ryzen gains more from higher speeds, opt for the faster option. Remember, the clock frequency equals DRAM speed in a 1:1:1 ratio up to around 1900 MHz. It feels odd, but spending more on RAM is worth it for a Ryzen 5900X. You’ll have to sacrifice some DRAM quality. It’s better to choose a Ryzen 5800X and invest in a superior RAM package instead. Based on my experience with multi-core systems since 2010/2011, future-proofing isn’t really necessary. Just observe how Ryzen 1000-series to 5000-series have evolved. If you had a Ryzen 1800X in 2016/2017, you wouldn’t expect such a big jump from a Ryzen 5800X in 2020. That gap is just about three years. Your four to five-year build will be... well...

For practical reasons, the 64GB might be excessive. It’s better to stay flexible; you’re likely to need around 32GB before needing a full replacement.
