I'm looking at a system with an upgraded 8086k OC'd to 5GHZ and a 1080p Asus Strix OC Edition. I'm thinking about adding a 3080ti later and want to know if it might slow things down in AAA games or similar titles. We don't have details on the 30-series or future games like Cyberpunk, so this is mostly based on what we can guess. I'll go with that information and hope it helps.

Using 3000 cards could likely slow down the CPU.

Do you know what bottlenecking is? It doesn’t affect the GPU performance. The main differences between the 10900k and the 8700k are the core changes, higher boost clocks, and increased power limits so those speeds last longer. If you run a 10900k at 5 GHz and a 8700k at the same speed, most games won’t show a big difference.

I'll hold off on drawing any final thoughts. It really depends on the software and its underlying code (to some extent). These units are around 6/12 CPU's and they're close to an i9 10900k until core count gets higher. EDIT - this naming system by Intel is frustrating for me. I really appreciate how my i5 3470 matches up with an i5 8500 in performance per core, considering how the numbers are presented in the naming scheme.

We lack certainty and can't be sure. Keep monitoring. They likely won’t. What do you think? ^ this.

You should be okay unless you're thinking about a 3080ti.

The GPU is likely to perform better than the CPUs they're discussing, though the CPU might be locked in place. The GPU could handle it since both are from the same generation. Resolution also plays a role—aiming for 4K at 240 can push the GPU to full capacity while the CPU operates at around 80%.

It's a solid CPU, though we can't be certain. Most likely, it won't cause any issues.

Absolutely, I remember now. The difference between the 10th and 8th generation is around 10%.

4K gaming feels like a poor choice for me because of the frame rates. 4K at 240 isn't coming soon—perhaps in 2 to 3 more generations. It's not really a bottleneck issue.
