2x SSD for Asus Z490-P model
Hello everyone, I'm trying to expand my PC by adding another SSD. I have an Asus Z490-P motherboard and a 256GB SSD already installed. I'm considering installing a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 drive alongside it. The board shows two M.2 slots, one of which is currently used. I'm worried about performance impact and compatibility. I understand it should work if there are enough SATA ports, but I want to make sure. I've shared the motherboard specs so you can see if this is feasible. Thanks for your help!
The first available m.2 slot uses bandwidth from a SATA port. This usually means you can't run a SATA drive on all your SATA ports at once. In short, you should be okay with that. There shouldn't be any direct problems from this, and adding another drive shouldn't affect performance.
Thanks for the quick response! It seems like it’s just a matter of connecting it and it should work fine. I have the Seagate BarraCuda 510 M.2 NVMe 256GB, sorry I missed adding it earlier.
