Generally, most folks can't afford the equipment for 4K gaming. Right now, 1440p is still the optimal choice. 1080p works well if you're on a tighter budget and it's perfectly acceptable. Only those familiar with your 1440p setup might question anything about 1080p, just as I do since I moved to 1440p—I'd find 1080p okay but not great, especially if my usual games were in 1080p.

I've been playing at 2k for a few years, but I upgraded to 4k this year. High-fidelity 4k gaming is now possible, and with the next-gen GPU arriving next year, it will likely become standard if you can afford the equipment.

If you have the funds or a graphics card, then your 1440p/1080p gaming experience will seem fine. But if you hadn't upgraded to 4K, it would appear much better.
