2k isn't suitable for playing? Is it okay to play 2k? Am I really expressing the right question? Should I be doing something wrong by playing 2k in 2021 since my hardware can't handle more, or should I wait until I get better equipment and then switch to 4k instead of finishing games at 2k? Also, how many people are actually streaming in 4k? I'm not sure how to clearly convey what I'm trying to ask.

Other opinions are irrelevant to me.

you want to know what the marked says about not really ruining my gaming experience if you understand what i mean. if a game is made for 4k, i don’t want to play at 1080p, do you know? why am i undercutting myself in terms of experience when i can wait... but i’m curious about the quality of 2k games today. is it really worth it to start playing 2k, or should i wait and buy a new computer instead of playing games like far cry 5? is 2k still a good way to enjoy games?

"The market" is urging you to purchase new equipment. That's the only thing.

Did someone trash talk you about this? Ignore them.
2k/1080p works just fine—unless your games rely heavily on reading fine-prints during gameplay. Most players with limited budgets struggle to maintain a decent frame rate at that resolution.
The key is your own satisfaction.

4k gaming demands significant financial resources, while 1440p offers a more affordable alternative.

okay so we are getting somewhere
so yeah 4k is very expensive does that mean that 2k still is a good way to play games and are not most people playing 4k?
so in a way i am asking what is our standard .. marked standard is it 4k and if not is 2k still a popular and good way to play games without feeling you are cheating yourself by finishing your games on 2k?
the issue with pc is tha tthere is no standard that is clear.... but every era had its standard what is our standard now and is 2k a waste for my 2020 2019 games?

There isn't a fixed standard.
What your equipment can handle is important, and what appears appealing depends on your preferences.
That's all that truly matters.
You're the only one who can make you feel excluded.

Exactly, I just don’t want to play X game at 2K. I could wait to play it later at 4K... Does that make sense? Are there any sites that mention the current resolution most users are using today?

2018: A small fraction of Steam users enjoy 1080p resolution.
2019: Only a minor portion of players utilize 4K gaming as per Steam data.
2020: More than half of PC users continue playing in 1080p according to the survey.
July 2021: The majority of displays meet the 1920 x 1080 standard at 67.20%.
Bottom line - You might be overlooking something if you assume you're missing it.
