Hi, your friend is facing a challenge because the ISP provided a 400Mbps router with only 1Gbps ports. It seems tricky to achieve a 10Gbps output since most switches use LAN ports and their routers cap at 1Gbps. They mentioned not to alter the ISP cable or switch devices, which suggests the setup is tightly controlled. You might need to explore alternative solutions like upgrading to a higher-speed router or checking if there are any hidden configurations that could be adjusted.

Confirm if the setup supports a 2Gbps connection—it looks odd to provide that speed with a router capable of only half that limit. Are you aiming for local speeds from the Plex server or from outside the network? If it's local, the router isn't needed (and internet speed doesn't matter). Upgrade to a 10Gbps switch and 10Gbps NICs, connecting everything to the switch. On the LAN, Plex traffic won’t pass through the router anyway.

I assure you the ISP won’t provide a router capable of handling a gigabit. Modem only, not router. GIG users generally require their own routers; if they received two gigabits, they’d likely need a professional 10GbE edge router from Ubiquity or Mikrotik.

I can't access external websites or retrieve specific links directly. Please check the ISP website yourself and share the subscription link if you need it.

This situation doesn't make much sense. It seems confusing why an ISP would offer a 2Gbps connection while only providing a 400Mbps modem. Also, why would someone need a 2Gbps connection specifically for Plex? I think we might have missed something. Please share the manufacturer and model of the modem so we can look into it further.

Typically routers support around 500mbps, but they only hit gigabit speeds once certain features are disabled. ISPs do offer 2-gig plans, and we have two or three customers on that tier, though the main user doesn’t require it. Even with streaming or selling his service to generate revenue, it would be surprising if he could maintain a consistent gig consistently.

Check if the access is limited to your local network or if it extends beyond it. If it’s confined to the LAN, the router and internet connection don’t affect Plex traffic.

Is this Comcast's 2Gbps Fiber Plan? If yes, they don't provide a router; instead, they offer a media converter with one 1Gbps Ethernet port and one 10Gbps SFP port. All other components must be purchased by the customer.

It's hungarian telekom's 2gbps down and 500mbps up connection. Can't say the modem's model number because none of us are home, but i'm certain it doesn't output more than a gig from each port, and 450mbps wireless. We will certainly use plex outside the network (like 10 people), and we'll also maintain a seedserver, with ftp transfers, so we will absolutely excersize the bandwidth available. Speedtest and ftp transfer tests confirmed that 2gbps is available, but we could only use it if 2 of us use 1gbps separately, that's what i'm searching a fix for.
