280x Crossfire versus 980ti against 1070
280x Crossfire versus 980ti against 1070
Hello everyone! I have a few questions about what to do next. Right now I’m using a 280x graphics card, but a friend gave me two more Gigabyte Windforce 280x R2.0 models. I’m unsure whether to keep one for crossfire or try selling them to buy a better card like a 980ti or 1070. I checked some benchmarks and haven’t found a clear winner between the 980ti and 1070, but prices suggest a used 980ti could be around $300–350.
I’m just trying to decide if it’s worth selling my current card to buy something newer. Since I don’t plan on doing VR, the VR features of the 1070 aren’t important for me.
A bit more about my setup: I have an AMD FX-8350 (clocked at 4.6GHz), Corsair H100i v2, Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 R5, G.Skill Ripjaws X 16Gb 2133 (running at 1866), Gigabyte Windforce 280x R2.0, EVGA SuperNova 850 G2, two SanDisk Ultra II 480GB drives, and two Seagate 1TB 7200RPM drives.
Thanks for the advice!
the mentioned games perform much better with Nvidia graphics cards.
Also, CF/SLI should be avoided whenever feasible because of scaling problems, bugs, stutters, heat, and the requirement for a strong power supply unit.
between the 980ti and 1070, for the same budget, the 1070 stands out thanks to updated hardware, minor improvements for DX12/Vulcan, reduced power usage, and likely stronger driver compatibility in recent titles.
