2700x or 3600?
2700x or 3600?
I’m planning to assemble a gaming PC with a focus on streaming and photo editing. While a single-core speed of 3600 is significantly better than 2700x for gaming, I don’t plan to upgrade for several years. Concerning future-proofing, it’s worth thinking about adding extra cores in case next-gen consoles use 8 cores—this could make the 3600 less competitive compared to a 2700x. Regarding your setup, using a GPU like the 2070 Super would fit your needs. You’ll likely want to run at 1080p with smooth 165hz/165fps on your monitor. Let me know if you need advice or alternative suggestions!
Gaming: 3600 offers superior streaming performance. Photo editing: 3600 provides better results without needing the 2700X setting. Scaling with fewer cores is simpler than using more. Essentially, if the game is designed to leverage 8 cores, it will still function effectively with just 6.
There are over 6000 units available, but 3600 is a much better choice than 2700. Avoid 2700 unless you're getting it for free and your area has plenty of compatible RAM. Most of these are older models and cost more now because they're harder to find. WOOOO! 3600 is the way to go, 2700 is only worth it if you get it for free and it fits your region's specs.
CPUZ suggests the 3600 isn't significantly superior overall, while the 2700x excels in multi-threading. It seems those forum opinions are often skewed, and since the 2700x is likely more affordable, it might be a better choice without major performance loss.
