2.5G Ethernet technology
2.5G Ethernet technology
Hello everyone. My ISP offers a modem with only 1Gbit ports. I have a motherboard with 2.5G Ethernet. My girlfriend got me a Chromecast with Google TV and a Type-C port for 2.5G. If I connect a switch like the TP-LINK TL-SG105-M2 (with 2.5 ports) to link my PC and Chromecast, will I get those speeds locally for PLEX? Or am I restricted by the modem? This is just about my local LAN between the PC (Plex server) and the Chromecast (Plex client).
Even 4K footage can exceed 100M, and 1G Ethernet is no longer feasible. Still, for the purpose discussed, communication at 2.5G would be possible between devices on the switch.
