I’m going to check for an exp GDC GPU dock and they offer different connector types. I’m pretty sure I have a M.2 but I’m not entirely sure these adapters fit. If I use M.2 PCIe, I’d be swapping my wife’s M.2 slot and the Bluetooth card (the 1535 wireless card) which is labeled M.2 but appears as “m.2 pci-e” on the seller site. This is the exact item I wanted for my RX580. After removing the WiFi card and SSD, I realized which slot works and the SSD didn’t fit in the original card slot. I think I have a M.2 port but can’t confirm it’s compatible. For the Razer Blade Pro 17-inch GTX 1060, I’m wondering if using the WiFi slot will significantly slow things down. I’m considering the 9.0 version for better speeds, but I’m not sure if it’s available or correct. I also know an external Thunderbolt connection isn’t feasible due to cost constraints.
Typically not worthwhile. Usually, linking through an external GPU case reduces performance by a significant tier.
I have a solid reason for this choice, it’s being used with a valve index VR headset. My current laptop lacks DP support from the GTX 1060, and I’ve already experimented with various adapters, custom resolutions, and multiple devices without getting a proper video output. I’m shifting focus to this setup. The A+E key on M.2 differs from a standard M.2 because it’s not the universal standard—most assume one lane, but I’m prepared to accept that limitation until I build a more capable system. What impact would this have on the 580 performance if it’s limited to a single lane?

The A+E key is designed for Wi-Fi cards, so the connected eGPU won't function in those ports. I think it's better to buy the laptop and switch to a desktop if VR is important, since using an eGPU would be frustrating and performance would suffer.
I understand your situation. Unfortunately, Razer laptops lack strong resale appeal and this model is out of battery due to overheating. I’d prefer to keep it for now and save up for a desktop later. What specifically stops it from functioning in the Wi-Fi port? These adapters are designed for that purpose.
