24gb 6 stick setup for X58
I've got the board finally. The rams are just a few micron d9qbj, each stick holds 4GB, and there are six sticks totaling 24GB. I expected to need a lot of extra VTT for optimal uncore (3800-4000), but for this model only required 1.5V VTT. Previously, with the x5650 at 3900, it needed about 1.45V VTT. If I'd known sooner, I might have chosen double-sided 2Gbbit sticks (K4B2G086WD) instead of these d9qbj ones—their TRFC performance is poor and that setting on the first photo demands 2V Dimm. Maybe cranking the voltage to 2.46V would help, but even then TRFC remains weak. Still, it can set TRDR TFaw at low levels, though the temperature must be kept at 5 and I’d need to run QPI slowmode above 208BCLK. Maxing out at 230BCLK with PCIe at 120 is possible. It looks like this build is already a mess—especially with the H212, which seems like junk (possibly just thermal paste). The E5645 is also running hot, struggling to hit over 204BCLK stable and forcing me to run QPI slowmode past 208BCLK, capping at 230BCLK. I’m not sure how temperature affects these parts, but I think keeping them around 1.8-2V without a fan makes sense. If fans are needed, I’d probably limit them to 1.8-2V and skip them entirely.**
