Most people don't actually do that anymore. You can easily lower the DPI so much that a mouse click feels almost nonexistent (and after getting used to it, you'll find your accuracy improves). Honestly, I play at 2000DPI in 1080p, and even when things go wrong in Insurgency, my shots stay the same because I've built up muscle memory to handle anything.

In reality, most people rely on the mouse for pointing.

Damn, I might be really old-fashioned about this, but I need to talk to some friends. I think I’ve overlooked some updates over the past few years. It’s true that the mice have gotten sharper and the click sensitivity should be adjustable.

I've never tried that even when I was playing FPS games back then. If I was using the keyboard to shoot, it's because the game didn't have mouse support or mouse support was poor at best.
Beyond that, misdirecting your aim while clicking feels like weak hand control. It's comparable with handguns too. A lot of people struggle with them because they can't keep their hands steady when pulling the trigger, which causes a slight off-target shot.

I adjusted the fire button in a few different situations, but it ended up being mapped to the mouse wheel instead, which kept it active on the mouse.
