Hello everyone, can we run at 2400MHz without XMP? I recently borrowed my girlfriend's ASUS A407UF laptop, which has DDR4 4GB 2400T RAM. I was testing some RAM sticks—one seems faulty since it shows a 4.1GB system reservation—and it uses 2133MHz RAM. It works fine on her machine, but when I put the 2400MHz stick back in, it drops to 2133MHz. The BIOS doesn’t have any XMP settings, and even with the 2400 stick, the system still shows 4.1GB reserved. Anyone know how to adjust the 2400MHz RAM back to 2400? Apologies for the unclear explanation and language issues. Thanks!

Can you adjust the manual settings on that laptop? Most don’t allow it, but you still have the option to change timing and speed yourself. XMP is just a preset that helps users achieve their advertised performance.

Are you talking about a Laptop? Also, please share the model.

Yes, you're using the ASUS A407UF-BV062T model and adjusting the settings directly in the BIOS. However, if you can't locate it, double-check the manual or look for a hidden menu option.

This implies your laptop isn't an outlier and doesn't let people adjust timing or speeds independently.

To achieve a 2400MHz speed, you'd need to optimize your system's settings and hardware configuration.

The system will accept any component with a Jedec specification of X frequency. Here, the memory supports Jedec standard 2400mhz, and the board will display that performance.

Sure, I can clarify that for you. Could you provide more details about what you're trying to understand?

The 2400mhz memory kit runs at the standard Jedec frequency, not an Extreme Memory Profile (XMP). It will display the board at this speed instead of adjusting for XMP settings. For better performance, upgrading to 2400mhz is preferable over 2133mhz.

the original ram is now running at 2133mhz after testing other options, while the bios still shows 2400mhz. setting it to 2400mhz isn't possible since the cpu-z ai tweaker isn't available in the bios. the task manager reports 2133mhz instead.
