I've been considering increasing my RAM. My current configuration includes an i7-7820x, ASUS x299, ASUS 1080ti turbo, and two 8GB 2133 modules. I mainly play games and have noticed some people achieving up to 40 FPS in COD: Warzone with faster RAM on high-end systems. For my setup, should I opt for a 2x8 faster RAM upgrade or add another pair of 2x8 2133 modules to enable quad channel?
This depends largely on whether COD uses memory bandwidth or latency. Quad channel memory can double the bandwidth, meaning a 2133MHz quad channel setup behaves like a 4266MHz dual channel system. However, quad channel introduces a slight latency reduction. Some titles prioritize bandwidth while others focus on speed. I’d try a 2x8 kit at 3200MHz and compare both options. Even the most affordable memory packages are now around 3200MHz (usually $2–3), and it’s possible to lower the clock speed to 2133MHz if the 4x8 configuration performs better.
WarzoneMW engine (2019 or newer) suits my needs for both high bandwidth and lower latency. My FPS improved with 3200C14 at its Supertune C13 using many optimized settings. It also performed well with relaxed timing and speeds between 3200 to 4200Mhz. I achieved a 35fps boost on average with the full system overclocked (CPU, RAM, and clock speeds adjusted). On average I reached around 200fps, up to 165fps. This was installed in the Nakatomi Plaza area of Warzone—a CPU-intensive zone. However, it may not scale as much on slower hardware. The 2019 version handles my setup across 10 cores, with improvements in RAM latency and clock speeds, making it responsive overall.
