I'm dealing with a mid-2010 MacBook Pro. I swapped the HDD for an SSD and performed a fresh OS installation of OSX Lion. Recently, I started up from safe mode and everything functions as if it were brand new. What's causing problems? If I boot into safe mode, it works perfectly. Login items are empty. Anyone experienced this issue? Edited January 29, 2018 by BrendanReed

Have you considered boosting the Ram too? Plus, why not upgrade entirely to the latest Sierra version your system needs?

I considered it but it works in safe mode. There seems to be an issue holding the CPU, making it too slow to identify the problem. I'll attempt again. I can also try doing that myself.

Have you checked the hardware monitor to identify CPU activity?

I'll attempt to determine its nature by checking if it starts up.

If it doesn't maintain the power force, it will shut down. Then press the power button with the option and R. This will switch it into recovery mode, allowing you to install the latest OSX version if necessary. I don't believe it clears the drive, but I'm not sure—proceed at your own risk.

Reaching the recovery process is extremely slow, honestly (I'm using Windows). This is my first time working with a Mac. The loading bar has been stuck just past the apple logo for about 15 to 20 minutes. It works fine in safe mode, and it actually boots into safe mode too.

Recovery mode is unnecessarily sluggish since it fetches the OS from the internet without a solid backend. This results in extremely slow performance.

Are you sure it should be accessing a partition? I'm currently in the process. I've been reviewing the catalog hierarchy for roughly 5 to 10 minutes.

The Volume Mac OS X seems to function properly.
