It depends on the balance between bandwidth and cost. Dual channel usually offers more speed than quad, and RAM tends to be reliable.

It's not the case. Your CPU or MBO doesn't have quad-channel RAM, and quad channel is only available in certain processors like the Threadripper. Both got criticized.
