2 gamer units with a CPU, RTX 5080 graphics card, model year 2025.
Hello, with the upcoming RTX 5000 lineup I'm gearing up for a fresh build together. I'm thinking about a "2 gamers, 1 CPU" configuration but running into a challenge with the motherboard. I need dual PCIe 5.0 slots without spending over $650. The ASUS PRO WS W680-ACE is the most affordable I've seen so far. I'm still deciding between AMD and Intel, as picking the right board feels tricky. Any recommendations for a suitable option?
My planned setup includes: RAM at 128GB, a Samsung 990 EVO Plus 1TB (PCIe 4.0), a Samsung 990 EVO Plus 4TB (PCIe 5.0) for storage, an RTX 5080 or 5070 GPU, and the RTX 4080 as my current choice—though I might switch to a 5070 later. The case will be Lian Li O11D EVO XL Black Nothing.
I'm using an RTX 4080 from my previous build, but everything else is brand new. Your advice would mean a lot!
This idea really stuck with me. I aimed for a bit of a test and wanted to show off a little here.
You decide on the setup method, such as using virtual machines.
It's possible to achieve a dual PC configuration within a Phanteks Enthoo Pro II setup. You can find more details here: https://www.kitguru.net/components/cases...-review/4/
I intend to leverage Proxmox and deploy virtual machines. I already possess Proxmox on my local machine and in the office, which gives me a solid understanding of its features.
No known anti-cheat solution that works without cooperation from VMs like Battleye exists. This could create a significant obstacle for the plan. However: It’s unnecessary for either GPU. The 4090 can handle 3.0 x16 with good performance (though peak is better on 4.0 x16, which is close to a limit), and the 5000 series would behave similarly due to Blackwell improvements. x16 4.0 should be more accessible, or at least 8x 5.0.
I hadn't considered the anti-cheat aspect before, which added more uncertainty. It seems I misread the 5000 series—I assumed it was essential for full performance. There are multiple PCIe 5.0 cards with a 16x PCIe 4.0 slot on slot number two. Now I need to look deeper into which anti-cheats could interfere. It feels like that was the main reason this changed.
