1x4 connector paired with 1x8 connector for the 12400F and TUF B660M module
I need to switch to a 12400F and Asus Tuf Gaming B660M Plus without Wi-Fi. The GPU will be an RTX 3050 for everyday gaming. In the PC part picker, compatibility info says my Corsair CX550M doesn’t have an extra 4-pin CPU power connector, even though the motherboard does. Although the 12400F only needs one 8-pin connector, a 12th gen CPU paired with this board might require the additional one. Can I get it from Corsair later to fit higher-tier CPUs like 12700 or 13700 at their default settings?
The 8 pin connector can deliver at least 384 watts. The nearest available option for LGA 1700 is the 12900k, which provides around 230 watts when fully loaded—significantly below the 384-watt capacity. A future 13900k model is unlikely to exceed roughly 250 watts under full load due to cooling challenges, making the additional 4-pin connector merely cosmetic rather than functional.
Many assume more connectors mean better performance, but this only applies during overclocking on extremely cold tasks—something you won't encounter with a B660 board.
