Checked out a 16gb ram kit, wondering if it's worth the cost given my current 8gb system (all DDR3) and mainly using it for gaming.

I personally believe it's not a good idea. Most games won't use it, and upgrading to DDR4 would be a waste unless you have a specific need.

For gaming, it's a big no, but if you're into video editing or virtual machines, then yes.
