Hey everyone, I’m running a setup with an Intel Core i5-3570K processor. The RAM is Corsair Dominator 2x4GB DDR3 at 1866MHz, paired with a C9-10-9-27 cooler. It’s an ASUS P8Z77-V case and the GPU is an ASUS ROG STRIX RX 570 with 4GB of VRAM. Overall it performs well for old games and gaming, but not for media tasks. I’m thinking about upgrading and would appreciate your tips.
If I switch from 8GB to 16GB RAM, would that improve gaming performance? Specifically, would a 2133MHz clock speed with timing of 10-12-12-31 be faster than my current 1866MHz with timing 9-10-9-27? Thanks in advance for your advice!
You likely don’t need the full 8 GB of RAM for smooth gaming. Raising it to 16 GB won’t significantly boost performance on your older system. Also, since your hardware is quite old, the difference between these two options will be minimal. If you decide to purchase, I recommend the 2133 kit.
The timing for 2133 is 9-11-11-31, while 10-12-12-30 is another option. Which one suits you better depends on your needs.

This could provide a few extra frames or another short game each session, especially with a more powerful GPU like a 2080TI or 3070+ at 1080p. Relies on the OS and how much RAM is used. If the system frequently warns about low memory, then increase it. But speed won’t improve much with slower timing settings. Your current RAM might easily reach 2133MHz at those specific timings—up to 1.65V is fine. My old Corsair Mushkin Redlines could run at 2200MHz with those settings and stay cool. At 1.7V you’ll need a fan for the memory. (I also have a set of Dominators.)
