16GB for 80/100 euros or 32GB for 150 euros?
All units are CL16 @ 3600Mhz. You're planning to test this build on a Ryzen 7 3700X, RX 5700 XT, and X570 MOBO. You'll be gaming at 1440p and watching videos on a second 1080p display. Storage options include 16GB without RGB, 100GB with RGB, and a 32GB model lacking RGB. Since you typically use about 8 to 11GB with games, Chrome, Spotify, Discord, and other apps open, you're approaching the limit. Most still suggest 16GB, but newer titles often need more than that. With upcoming consoles, you might run low soon. What do you think?
If your budget allows for a 32GB configuration without compromising elsewhere, go ahead. You won’t need to worry about RAM limits. It might be wise to hold off on Zen 3 this year and wait for next-generation GPUs.
It really depends on your goals. I manage a server with several automated services, and my machine runs between 10gb and 11gb when idle. I’m happy I went from 32gb to 16gb, but I’ve never seen it exceed 55% usage. The most demanding I’ve encountered was around 53%.
Empty RAM means wasted space. If you're not using it, the investment should go elsewhere. On the other hand, if you have the €70, it adds a solid buffer for future needs. That said, I tend to juggle multiple tasks and rarely hit the 16GB mark. Spending that $50 on a larger or faster SSD, a better GPU, or something similar would be more worthwhile. Keep in mind that filling only half of your memory slots makes doubling RAM a practical upgrade later on.
