1440p resolution at 165Hz on KVM setup
I’m looking for a solution that lets me link a PC and a laptop to a high-resolution monitor using a KVM, while also handling video, audio, and peripherals smoothly. I already have a Delock DP 1.4 KVM and a matching DP 1.4 MST-Hub, but I found out the MST-Hub can’t support frame rates above 60Hz even though it’s compatible with DP 1.4. My question is whether there’s a way to combine a KVM with an MST-Hub that meets these needs.
DisplayPort MST operates under a completely different protocol compared to standard DisplayPort 1.4 within the DP bus, affecting how bandwidth is assigned and allocated. The first uses a fixed DP bus configuration, while the second employs dynamic bus allocation. Digital output packages aren't fully compatible unless you employ a protocol transfer kit for MST video outputs or switch to a DDM-class DisplayPort KVM switch. An alternative approach involves eliminating the MST hub entirely and instead using a docking station to supply multiple DP outputs to a Dual DisplayPort KVM switch.
