Power phases alone don’t define importance. You can craft some terrible 16-phase VRMs or impressive 4-phase ones. Focus on the overall VRM design to ensure it supports your CPU, and prioritize its current-handling ability over nominal ratings—especially since most high-end parts push beyond 40-50A, not 90+A. The 13900K in stock requires a board capable of handling roughly 250A at normal temps and about 350A when fully loaded with water. Most mid to high-end Z690/Z790 boards should manage this without major trouble.

Mid-range boards are typically defined by their balance of performance and price. Your question about the 13900k refresh relates to whether your tomahawk can fit within that category moving forward.
