Im running a 13700k on an asus d4 z690, thermalright PA 120 cooler. All settings stock except for a -100mv undervolt, latest microcode update. Windows power mode is set to best performance. In multicore, I guess its alright, score of 26197 and only throttles for a little bit according to HWINFO. But in single core, good god, it is abysmal. Scoring 1132 and 1025. According to passmark, single core is 25th percentile. Any idea why it is performing so poorly here?

It was initially configured for balance. I switched to high performance, but no changes occurred.

Undervolting is essentially the same as overclocking, but there are always issues involved. The chip runs smoothly at a higher speed but doesn’t perform as well. It’s crucial to run a baseline test and recheck regularly after any changes.

It is likely that the latest BIOS version has enabled Intel Undervolt Protection. Any attempt at undervolting when this is enabled can drop performance in half. Someone at Intel thought that terrible performance would help discourage people from messing with the CPU voltage. Instead of reducing your undervolt, look in the BIOS to see if you can disable UVP or IA-CEP (Intel Current Excursion Protection). HWiNFO can report if these are enabled. Here is what the ThrottleStop FIVR window shows when Undervolt Protection is enabled by the BIOS.

Disabling AI-CEP allows me to reduce voltage by 100mV without affecting performance. Appreciate it!
