If you already have $13,700k and mainly care about electricity costs, reducing your usage from $13,700k to $13,600k could lower your bill noticeably. Selling the higher amount for a fair price would help offset the savings. Running the CPU at 50-70% usage should keep power consumption manageable and avoid a big spike in bills.

Switching costs usually require more time than the lifespan of the CPU to offset energy savings. A better approach would be to lower the CPU voltage or restrict its clock speeds, thereby conserving power without needing to replace the chip.

Adjusting your CPU’s voltage or capping its top speeds can significantly cut energy use without costing much. We’ll estimate how a $50 savings would show up on your electricity bill. I’ll base my calculation on the wattage figures from the two benchmarks you shared.

The average power consumption was around 133 watts for one model and 103 watts for the other. That’s a difference of roughly 30 watts. Over a day, that’s about 0.72 kWh. At $0.2 per kWh, the daily savings would be $0.14. To reach a $50 reduction, you’d need about 375 days of continuous operation at this level. Given typical usage patterns, this could take 2 to 3 years before the difference appears on your bill.

Undervolting offers good reliability when done properly, though it requires careful handling. For beginners, it can be manageable but comes with risks if not done safely. The data from gamers nexus highlights significant variations, indicating that performance gains and stability depend heavily on the setup and conditions.

Lowering power too much may cause instability and crashes. This is probably the most serious issue. It will require some experimentation, but it shouldn't be overly complicated to understand. You're focusing on peak power usage during a single test. My estimate isn't very accurate because your CPU will idle much of the time, and a quicker processor will finish tasks faster. That means higher power use will be balanced by shorter operation times. However, considering maximum power is even more extreme—unless you plan to run Blender continuously—it's unrealistic. If you check further, the typical power difference during gaming is around 74 watts versus 88 watts, which is less than what most apps show.

I understand you're questioning whether lowering the voltage could help cut down usage even when the system isn't running.

It appears the cooler might increase power usage because the fans spin faster. For your Noctua NH-D15, I don’t have exact wattage numbers, but you can check the manual or manufacturer specs for fan power draw. Regarding the gaming overclock temperature, it’s possible the OC runs cooler than stock due to better airflow or thermal management under load.
