Considering a switch from 12400F to 13600K on your MSI MAG B660M Mortar is an interesting idea. Since you won’t be pushing the CPU beyond its limits, it should run smoothly for gaming. Just keep in mind the compatibility with your current setup.

It'll be fine, though why are you replacing your cpu? A 12400f should be just fine for gaming, unless you're playing very cpu intensive games

She needs the chip, but isn't affected by any advantages or improvements.

A Noctua NH-U12S Redux could handle the heat during intense gaming sessions, but whether it’s sufficient depends on your specific needs. Consider if you need extra cooling capacity versus what your current setup provides. If you’re comfortable with the trade-offs, it might be worth switching; otherwise, staying with your 12400F could be a safer choice.

I’m the one who usually hesitates before asking about upgrades. Most of the time I’ll just say, “Hell yeah, brother!” I came across another article about someone using an Arctic Freezer 34 in a 13th gen rig—it’s pretty basic and only reached about 90% of the performance goals.

You'll need a cooler for the 12400F, right? Bring along the Noctua model and consider getting a new one for the 13600k. Thermalright and Deepcool offer excellent options. I bought a DeepCool AK620 for my 10900k when I passed it on to my son—it performs well. My friend installed a Thermalright FC140 on their 12700k, and it also works great.

I'm holding onto the Noctua unless it falls short of expectations. Your daughter's rig uses the Hyper 212 Black V2, which is fine. I should look into whether switching would be beneficial.
