I already own a laptop, so I'm not making any purchases.

I'm discussing a device with specific technical details. It appears to be a laptop featuring 4GB of RAM that has been soldered onto the motherboard, along with an open PCIe slot for additional expansion.

For faster performance like gaming, an 8GB dual is ideal. For more storage needs, a 12GB single is better.

I haven't soldered anything. I have two 4GB RAM modules and one 8GB module, with one 4GB being 1333 and the others at 1600. I'm not sure if my laptop can handle 1600, though it's a T420.

12 GB offers a flexible setup where the first 8 GB use dual channels, and the remaining 4 GB operate in single-channel mode. For those requiring more than 8 GB, choosing 12 GB provides a more advantageous overall experience.
