You have plenty of DDR3 ECC memory and two Opteron chips with 6272 memory slots. The system is from an old server, which means the CPUs likely run at low speeds and have limited performance for modern games. You're considering using this existing RAM with a newer Ryzen processor and possibly overclocking it to around 4 GHz with water cooling. It's a big upgrade, but it could work if done carefully. The main challenges are compatibility and stability—make sure the new CPU supports your RAM type and has good power delivery. Overclocking adds complexity and heat, so plan for proper cooling and monitoring. If you're comfortable with the setup, it could be a solid gaming solution, especially with a modern CPU paired with optimized settings.

Maybe it's more practical to upgrade instead of buying a brand-new machine.

appears to be a lack of interest in purchasing RAM, especially in Europe...

It may be feasible, but the trade-off needs evaluation. With the Ryzen 3 3000 launch, there are excellent budget-friendly options available, making it difficult to justify upgrading to older components.

You should break it into smaller units like 16GB or 32GB so buyers can purchase them.

That's my take... the new Ryzen 3 is essentially a Ryzen 5 at a lower price. The main trade-off is that using an older CPU means you'll get free RAM (DRD3 isn't too bad compared to DRD4), but if you ever want to sell it, you won't have the full cost of the new components.

Looking for advice on the possible CPU choice if the sale doesn’t go through.
