the prices look like this: 12700kf equals 395$, 12700k equals 343$, 13600kf is 331$, 13600k equals 347$, and 14600k is 327$. it seems the 12700kf price is a bit too high, so it’s already excluded. i’m considering buying a second-hand gpu instead. kf versions seem risky, so i’m unsure whether to go for k or k only kf. i’ll probably try ram oc and compare memory controllers.

It varies based on the GPU model you're considering. The 12600k/kf cost around $180 to $155 USD each, which is slightly lower than the higher-end options but still a good value if you're not targeting the top-tier. If you don’t need a very expensive GPU, it might be better to opt for something more recent.

12600k equals 271 dollars, and the final cost is overpriced, so I’ll likely use a used 2080ti for 251 dollars.

Those prices make it easy to upgrade to the 14th generation. You won’t save much compared to the previous one. The 2080ti paired with 14600k works well—roughly equivalent to an RTX 3070, so no major issues there. If you’re concerned about K versus KF, just invest a bit more for the iGPU. It’s significantly cheaper if you need to fix problems.

Thanks, I’m considering 14600k. The GPU pricing seems consistent with similar models like the 2080ti (11GB) at $3070, 251$, 233$ for 8GB, and 311$ for 6800xt (16GB). All these are priced similarly. For the next questions—do you need a bill and box, and are there cards outside warranty worth it? Also, what’s the likelihood of the GPU failing after four years?

I'm not the most suitable person to address a 'used GPU' inquiry because I steer clear of second-hand gear. Among the choices, the RX 6800 XT seems like the strongest option in my view and might be less likely to have been a former mining card compared to others. RDNA2 is probably the most durable architecture for driver updates, mainly because it's used in consoles like the Steam Deck. I can't say the same about any Nvidia product in 2023 given their shift toward planned obsolescence. Predicting its lifespan after four years is uncertain—this applies to any electronics too, as manufacturing complexity means surprises are common. Personally, I've had to return over $10k worth of devices, so it's a risky bet.
