12 series intel versus next gen amd comparison
heard next gen intel will support pcie5 and ddr5. we’re familiar with i7 and i9 along with motherboards becoming too costly at launch, just like ddr5. we have i5 models with 6+4 cores, but i doubt they’ll outperform a real 10-core chip just because amd fx attempted similar designs. intel is expected to draw around 225 watts during peak usage. the 6000 series ryzen won’t support ddr4 or pcie5 but will stick to am4, with peak consumption near 150 watts. my choice leans toward amd since it offers am4 compatibility, delivers solid performance if not superior, and uses about 40% less power. this gives us roughly two years before the ryzen 7000 series arrives with pcie5 and ddr5, which will likely be more affordable. i’d even favor the 5000 series over the 12th gen intel because i don’t want my cpu to consume more power than my graphics card, and the main reason for choosing 12th gen is pcie5 for a GPU we probably never need—so it makes sense to wait for pcie7 instead.

Nothing comes at a low price, and I bet this will become common in the coming years.
The outdated DRAM remains costly because of limited availability.
Absolutely, it's really frustrating seeing how much of this is just based on the used market pricing.
the market is just a joke, they’re charging the same price for items they bought years ago. living 45 miles from a microcenter, I only visit when I find a good deal. i can buy a used 9900k for 300, or a brand new 10850k or 11700k for the same amount. i can also get 6700k used, which feels like a lot compared to today’s prices, or a brand new 10700k or even 3700x. used motherboards can fail anytime, but a new one with warranty is better. for a small extra, you get a lot more value. the main problem is the lack of variety in cases—they’re all similar. let’s try to make unique cases once, something creative and innovative. i’ve seen the new torrent look like it could be a nice case if they had a PSU at the bottom or a side-mounted one, but it’s placed on top, which is really disappointing. now you can fit the 360mm aio in front, but it won’t work unless you air cool. oh wait… there are some nice-looking air coolers that are quiet and actually cool the cpu. maybe they should start making flat design coolers with multiple fans, like aerocool core plus, and add more fans for better performance. the fractal torrent seems designed for a 3700x with a stock cooler, and they’re asking 220 dollars for that? that’s a sad design.
For any PC setup, you can only purchase what’s in stock and within your price range... If you always imagine a distant future, you’ll never see anything assembled. Define a budget and choose the components that deliver the performance you need while staying within it—only when funds are available will prices drop significantly.
Currently it's not exactly what it used to be, but a few years back Zen1/+/2 components were really affordable.
