I own a 11900k that I liked for about a year. Recently I swapped my GPU from 1660Super to 3080, and the heat it produces—like around 78°C in Dying Light 2 at 80-120fps—has become too much. I’d prefer something cooler. What should I start with? In CineBenchR23 temps hit about 80°C during MultiCore (power use is near 210W). The cooler I have is the NZXT Kraken x63, which seems to fit well and the thermal paste works. My CPU runs at 4.8GHz across all cores. I also have a MSI Z590 ACE; CPU Lite Load Mode might be too high on default (it’s set to 9). RAM is G.SKILL 32GB (2x16GB) at 3600MHz CL16 TridentZ RGB Neo, installed in NZXT H710 case with XMP 1. I’m unsure if it pushes the CPU clock higher than intended. Can you suggest ways to lower heat or power consumption? Thanks!

When using standard voltage, adjust a negative offset in the BIOS to reduce CPU current and heat output. A range of -50 mV to -75 mV typically works well and remains stable. (-0.050V to -0.075V). Note that 80°C is typical operating temperature. Intel defines a default thermal throttling point at 100°C, ensuring reliable performance over time at lower temperatures.

Thanks! It did make a difference. I have a quick follow-up: if I wanted to lower the temps even more (I’m okay with a slight slowdown), should I switch the clock speed to 4.5GHz? And is that the only BIOS setting I’d need to adjust while keeping Auto mode active? Or are there other options I should tweak too? Also, would changing the voltage offset be necessary now that I set it myself? I understand Intel CPUs can reach 100C, but I’d prefer my PC to run quieter. Hope you get it.

This CPU can handle temperatures up to 105°C. With an airflow-limited enclosure, temperatures can climb by around 10°C or more based on the contents inside. For best results, use an open-side panel and expect the GPU to cool down significantly.

Set the maximum multiplier to 45 in the BIOS. This adjustment also affects the offset voltage.

After running Linpack extreme for several trials and Cinebench twice, everything appeared normal. However, after about 40 minutes in Dying Light 2, I encountered a BSOD. Could you assist me with this issue? I’m uncertain if it’s related to the CPU changes or possibly the new GPU/PSU. The file I modified was 031422-5828-01.dmp.

If the voltage is too low and performance drops, increase it slightly. Check stability at -0.050V. A higher voltage used for maximum speed may not work well at lower speeds.

A reliable machine should work smoothly regardless of speed, though even stable systems can fail due to unreliable software. I don’t have much knowledge about interpreting log files.
