11900k + Asus z590-A crashing issue
Hi Everyone, I've exhausted my (very limited) knowledge on how to troubleshoot my new PC. A quick idea of what is going on, and thanks in advance for anyone that my be willing and able to assist with this. I recently (2 days ago) bought a prebuilt computer. It is my dream PC and it was a long time in the making. It got here and i am having constant Blue Screen crashes getting the same two errors. 1. Machine Check Error 2. Clock Watchdog Timeout I have tried the following things: Resetting Bios (taking battery out for 10min) Resetting BIOS to "Optimized defaults" Turning XMP on Turning XMP off Reformatting windows (clean install) Performed memory test (system)] Possibly 1-2 other things i forgot that i Google'd I have also monitored temps on CPU / GPU and they look normal (Sub 70 degrees). Computer specs are below: 11900k (watercooled) Asus Z590-A Gkill Ripjaw 64 gigs (16gig sticks) Aorus RTX 3090 980 Evo 1TB (OS and a few games installed here) 1200w Thermaltake PSU The crashes have happened at startup and with light use (Outlook / MS office suite), but more frequently happen under load. I have had crashes specifically playing Star Citizen as well as GTA. These are "graphic intense" games i would assume, but i would think the PC should be able to handle without crashes. If anyone has any help or support they could offer i would greatly appreciate it.
The issues usually relate to a CPU problem. You might want to update the BIOS if a newer one exists. If not, since it's a prebuilt unit, you can return it for repair and have someone else handle the matter. Given that you likely bought it for a small price, it should function properly out of the box without problems.
Do you want to give Windows a fresh start? I often reinstall from a USB drive because OEMs sometimes add unnecessary bloat that causes problems. For my work, I usually use Microsoft’s official tool to create installer USBs. Since then, I haven’t faced any software issues. If you can’t see your SSD, Windows 10 might not include the latest drivers—Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology is required for 11th gen systems. Don’t worry if the installer doesn’t show any drives when booting from USB; it’s normal.
It's an Asus board, and Asus doesn't follow Intel. I think it connects to the extreme clock/voltage/power draw tables Asus provides for the 11th generation.
Thanks for the advice from Zando. I've already reinstalled it once, but I'm ready to try again since I didn't install it from a USB. I'll install a few more copies to check if we capture any additional tips before moving forward with a fresh Windows 10 USB setup. -Tech Wizard, this was my initial concern. Should I just let updates handle crashes or look for adjustments to prevent them? Any suggestions would be appreciated if they're possible.
I believed ASUS adhered to Intel's suggested requirements, while companies like Gigabyte and MSI offered extensive power configuration tables.
According to a GN video (feel free to check it out) and this Reddit thread, the situation isn't what you might expect.
Perhaps the retail locations vary. The Reddit discussion confirms it was covered by other media sources. Appreciate the update.
Hello everyone, thank you for the details. I'm still facing the same problems. I just did a fresh Windows install today but it didn't work. I also installed DriverFix and paid for it to ensure everything was current. The same issues came up again after that.
